Harry Smith: Magic Moments

In 1976, photography dealer Stephen White discovered a large collection of glass plate negatives taken by the amateur photographer Harry Smith. Several years later, White commissioned master printer Richard Sullivan to produce archival quality palladium prints from the Smith negatives. The son of Danish immigrants, Harry A. Smith grew up in San Francisco and began to use a camera at the age of 17. His photographs offer a glimpse into the daily life of Smith and his friends in California at the beginning of the 20th century including the devastating San Francisco earthquake of April, 1906.,
